Aesica is a leading contract manufacturing organisation offering custom solutions from development to commercial in Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), Formulation Development, Clinical Trial Supply and Final Formulated Products to the global pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.
The Company was formed in September 2004 through a management buyout of BASF’s API business in the UK. Since that time the company has expanded into all areas of the CMC continuum offering formulation development, clinical trial supply, commercial formulated product manufacture and packaging. Aesica’s innovative, flexible and service driven approach to finding solutions for their customers has enabled them to more than triple the size of the business as well as grow their physical assets and capabilities.

Aesica has 6 state of the art manufacturing and development facilities in the UK, Germany and Italy, with corporate headquarters near Newcastle and US offices located in New Jersey & California. The Company employs over 1300 people and has sales revenue of circa £200 million.
Company History
Founded in 2004, management buy-out of former BASF API facility in Cramlington, UK providing development to commercial custom contrct manufacturing solutions
2007, acquisition of ex-Abbott facility in Queenborough, UK providing both API and Formulated Product & packaging services
2010, acquisition of R5 Pharmaceuticals in Nottingham, UK adding Formulation Development and Clinical Trial Supply to service offering
2011, expansion into continental Europe through the acquisition of 3 Formulated Products and Packaging manufacturing facilities in Germany (Monheim & Zwickau) and Italy (Pianezza)
2012, opening of High Potency Formulated Products unit at Queenborough and new GMP Clinical Trial supply manufacturing and analyticals suites at Nottingham (including a High Potent suite)
