Job Description

Peninsula Compounding is a rapidly growing compounding pharmacy located in Long Beach WA. We are hiring a Clinical Compounding Pharmacist / Operations Manager for our lab who is passionate about going above and beyond what is expected. You will be an integral part of our Leadership team in helping us to ensure our compounding operations run smoothly, efficiently, and that our team feels supported and valued enabling Peninsula Compounding to provide the “WOW” service it is known for with it’s Providers and Patients alike.  

The Clinical Compounding Pharmacist / Director of Operations is responsible for all operational aspects of the Compounding lab including, but not limited to, Regulatory, Departmental Policy, Quality Assurance, Workflow Efficiency, Staff Supervision, Fiscal Responsibility, and Customer Service. The position serves as the PIC of the Compounding Lab and personifies the Company’s organizational culture by role modeling the company mission, vision and values while providing great leadership.

The role is responsible for leadership and operations in the lab while providing industry expertise, insight.  As a valued member of the leadership team, you will be looked to help research and identify of market opportunities.

  • Ability to lead, motivate and coach other members of the laboratory team
  • knowledge of rules and regulations that govern the practice of pharmacy compounding, knowledge of USP regulations and familiarity with FDA guidance for compounding as well as PCAB accreditation.
  • Hold a pharmacist license in good standing
  • Leadership experience in a compounding or home infusion pharmacy setting
  • Provide leadership for operational effectiveness, and laboratory staff management. Accountable for meeting budgetary and operational targets.
  • Collaborates with Leadership team to develop annual objectives including goals and strategies for department. Creates and monitors infrastructure, systems, processes, and standards to achieve desired results.
  • Direct purchasing, storage, distribution, and charge/crediting of drug products. Responsible for overseeing the design, implementation and management of a safe and effective medication use system. Ensures medication systems incorporate continuous improvement methodologies to operate effectively across the entire continuum of care. Responsible for developing plans for the continued operation of medication-use systems and for the provision of pharmaceutical services during emergencies and disasters. Ensure continued compliance with all national, state, and local regulations related to medications and their use.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with providers, patients, and staff. Support the implementation of strategic initiatives and decisions by the Leadership team.
  • Participates as an active member of PCCA networking groups and educational opportunities. Assures that all medication related processes, policies, and practices are reviewed and communicated.
  • Ensure the presence of an on-going quality improvement program and champions the continuous improvement process for all areas within scope and span of control. Runs point on PCAB Certification and requirements.
  • Directs recruitment, training, development, and evaluation of staff.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance for all areas of responsibility.
  • Collaborate with other pharmacy leadership system-wide to support quality delivery of Peninsula Compounding value proposition as well as company mission, vision, and values. Collaborate with peers to expand educational resources, progressive protocols and formulary initiatives that optimize therapeutic outcomes and ensure the use of cost-effective pharmacotherapy.
  • Pharmacist-In-Charge (PIC) responsibilities as prescribed by State regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Compounding Pharmacists Primary Responsibilities

  • Compound non-sterile pharmaceutical preparations, including but not limited to the compounding of capsules, tablets, oral liquids, and topical medications.
  • Compound medications, fill and label prescriptions, and package medications - in other words, full-service compounding from chemicals to packaging.
  • Counsel clients on different medications, needs, usages, and instructions.
  • Keep accurate records and monitor inventory levels in accordance with USP 795/800, State Board of Pharmacy regulations, PACAB requirements and company policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the Leadership team to provide guidance on clinical areas of opportunity, participating in sales/educational activities such as calling on or participating in ZOOM meetings with Providers
  • Perform Clinical Pharmacist duties on an as needed basis

Clinical Pharmacists Primary Responsibilities

  • Take prescriptions over the phone and by electronic means and enter orders into our proprietary workflow system.
  • Counsel clients on different medications, needs, usages, and instructions.
  • Monitor and respond to prescriber and client requests.
  • Fulfill Compounding Pharmacist responsibilities as needed

  • You are comfortable with change and the unknown.  You must be solution orientated and willing to collaborate to find win/win outcomes.  Be open to feedback and be willing to delivery feedback.  “Fit” matters most in this role.  We need someone who can mesh well with our company culture of being nimble, solution orientated, willing to roll up our sleeves and find a way rather than just taking the easy way out.  If you like a challenge and like to find the YES where others only see NO this position might be right for you. 
  • You are a licensed certified pharmacist in WA and OR (or can become in short order) and in good standing with all State Boards of Pharmacy
  • You have formal training in non-sterile compounding or equivalent experience (not required but desired…we will train for the right “FIT”)
  • You have 2+ years of experience in non-sterile compounding, with preference given to those who have operational insight and or expertise
  • You are instinctively always asking…how can we do this better? Where are there opportunities for increased efficiencies? How can I better support our team?  What resources and or tools will be needed in 3 months, 6 months, 1 year based on our current growth rates?  What challenges do I foresee and how can we preempt those?
  • You are collaborative and have a desire to work in a team-oriented, fast-paced, startup environment

In just a short amount of time we have grown the business exponentially. We just built a new 3,500 sqft state of the art compounding lab with an impressive educational conference room. We realize we need to bring in some outside expertise to help us take our game to the next level.  We need to refine our operations, dial in our processes, and reevaluate how we approach filling scripts with a focus on maximizing efficiencies.  We realize there must be better ways to get things done than how we have organically operated over the last 5 years.  If we want to truly expand as planned, we need a process driven leader who can help us maximize our processes / staffing and to facilitate our integration of technology to enable us to scale accordingly. 

Growth has been great for us, but we realize we need to reengineer and want to bring in someone with the expertise to lead the charge.
